Hello.
More pix from the archives. Who ARE all these guys anyway? Well, the man in the fez was a doorman outside
one of the places on Broadway. He worked there for years and we always enjoyed seeing one another, even tho maybe he liked it a little bit more than i did.
In the sunglasses is
Marty Thau, i think on a San Francisco visit when he was trying to sell something to 415 Records. In the b&w photo,
Craig Leon is on the left and the
one-and-only Hal Blaine is on the right. Photo taken at the Plant in Sausalito during the recording of White Courtesy Phone.
And speaking of Phil Spector, a most exciting moment happened at the Plant when Hal opened up a big duct-taped cardboard box which was marked "SPECTOR STUFF". One by one he took various percussion instruments out of the box and i realized that these same jingle bells, tambourines, shakers, etc. used on all my favorite songs of the 60s and 70s would b used on White Courtesy Phone. Readers,
i almost plotzed. I had 2 go in the bathroom and splash cold water on me face!
And i cried when Hal cried while he was working on
"Threw It Away". The lyrics got to him while he was playing, and he had to take a break.
Cassell, Craig's beautiful wife and assistant sent me into the bathroom (Again??. -Ed.)to get it together, while she and Craig dealt with Hal.
Ok kids, more pix later, I'm spozed 2 b
packin', not
yackin'!
