u look so dreamy

Had a dream i was at a Dean Wareham show. He was having trouble remembering lyrics, and somehow the neck of his gtr kept banging into things which would make it go out of tune. He had just begun BROWN WHEAT by Jimmy Friedman/El Destroyo when he got a funny look on his face. I realized that he had forgotten everything about the song, chords and lyrics both. I was sitting in the balcony with some other gals and we started singing the song for him, while another fan down below near the stage shouted out the chords to Dean. Dean seemed all fine with this, it looked like he was actually enjoying it. Yeah ok Dean, WHATEVER.
Here's ACC's version of BROWN WHEAT.  It's a beautiful song.  Maybe Dean and Britta should record it.

The editors at MY NON-TOUR DIARY are proud owners of a new table, handmade by Matt Turrini. The fir wood comes from a small sustainable farm on a ridge in northern Cali. Matt drove his truck up there to choose the wood then drove it back down to Sausalito where he worked on it in one of the boatyard work spaces. By looking at the grain of the wood Matt can tell u what kind of weather conditions the tree was living in from year-to-year. He pointed to a specific area of the table and said "Whoa! This was a really hard winter for the tree!"
And here's Matt's darling partner, Joy Turrini, proprietess of the Low Tide Club in Sausalito.

Last night in the dark fog a loud low-flying plane was making me uneasy. Here's what happened:
R: Siri, what the hell is flying overhead?
Siri: Would u like me to search the web for 'what the hell is flying overhead'?
R: No thanks, but have u heard of Angel Corpus Christi?
   Siri: Interesting.

trailer tales

Exciting musical news:  ACC's handsome friend/former bandmate George Earth played guitar and co-wrote the music for this trailer for Cathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty. Sa-weet, G! U gotta love his playing.
In other musical news, what a surprise the playlist was on PURE today... all spoken word and featured a sensational guest, Vincent Quatroche. One of the pieces Vincent read was about what it feels like to walk into Long Island Sound, all senses on high. It was so beautiful and gave me chills. Wanted to post it here but cant find.
And i got a kick out of Jean Shepherd's 'The Clown'.  ACC & R gonna get on the couch in a minute and listen to it again. (Remember Clown Sex by Bruce Anderson/MX80?)

got barnacles?

The scraper-guy hummed little tunes to himself as he worked and now the Whaleknocker is  barnacle-free.

where he went?

Rode bikes into town last night to watch the lighted boat parade and fireworks, but first stopped at Rossetti's to pick up a pizza-to-go. When the baker gal saw R shoot by on his bike she came running out and asked me "Where he went?"
Just hanging around the boat this morning, dancing and trying to decide what to do next.  ( Love the gnarly bottom on this.)

got milk crate?

Who says u cant strap two milk crates to your back and ride them home on your bike?

Really loving Colortunes' relaxing light show. We set it so the color changes slowly, fading from one color to the next.
Last night a certain someone was trying 2 say "table of contents" but instead said "table of comments" then "table of incontinence" then "table of continents."
Later on he said "every rose has its thong."
If u say so.

your personal holiday shopper, i'm here 4u

Hello everybody. Got another movie recommendation 4u: Still Bill. Even if, like me, back in the day u didnt have Bill on your radar, u should see this docu.
Been sitting here 2 long trying 2come up with anything halfway entertaining.  Fail.

good morning

Holiday pledge to my dear readers: Every post until Chrishmish will feature a great gift-idea like the one above. Hey i'm here4u.
Watched an excellent docu on Gerhard Richter. B4 seeing the movie, i'd always had mixed feelings about the paintings, they all seemed so different which bugged me 4 some reason and i sort of discounted him in a way, like one of these art forgers who can copy any style and any time period. But watching the movie, u can see pretty clearly how all the paintings actually are related. Popwars could do a better job explaining this, maybe he'll watch the film and do a blog post on it.

angel far-i-i-i-i

Been listening non-stop to crazy dub and reggae.  Way way back in the day HT made A&R a reggae/dub mix tape and it's just as fresh 2day as it was then.  On our player it comes up HT DUB.  Holla!  Aswad, Fred Locks, Prince Far I,  it's smashin' and i've never gotten tired of listening to it.   Also watched the Bob Marley docu.  Highly recommended.
Gotta get my dinner started yall.  Later.

meet the whaleknockers

I made it thru the wilderness somehow i made it thru didnt know how lost i was, wait, what? What i meant is, last nite A&R made it thru an all-night fierce, loud, northern Cali winter storm. It's a good thing it wasnt high-tide as well or our ass woulda been grass.
Today, in the calm after the storm A is hanging around the boat listening to dub and Bossa n.
R is downstairs working.

what the pel?

A certain someone (initial 'R') was talking in his sleep like a puppetmaster last nite after watching  Dark Shadows. His voice sounded theatrical and somewhat disembodied as he did all the voices of the characters in his dreams. Here's a sample:

Voice 1: You wanted it.
Voice 2: Yes, well...

 It was spooky and hilarious.

and down for you is up

Hello. It's not a good idea to kayak underneath the docks, but it sure is fun to go down there to get that unique perspective. Not a good idea because there r ropes and cables and lines under the docks that could be accidentally pulled out (hate when that happens. -Ed.) by a clueless paddler.
Heard a live version of Pale Blue Eyes at a cafe the other day, it was the most beautiful sound. The cafe was crowded and noisy, but still, the chords, the tambourine and the general feeling of the song came thru so clearly.  Touching gtr solo, and it's gotta be the best love song evah:

"It was good what we did yesterday
and i'd do it once again
the fact that u r married only proves you're my best friend
but it's truly truly a sin
   linger on..."

Spent too long on the interwebs last night, finally closed up my lappie and meant to say to R "We've got our own life to lead" but instead, slipped and said "We've got our own life to leave." Oops.

in my sailor's suit and cap

Today is Friday which means 3 hours of fun listening to the PURE show on WPKN. I really liked Sophie Madeline's song 'Stars'. It's so excellently recorded, so personal, it sounded like Sophie was here performing it live.
It makes me dizzy to think that the VU is having a 45th anniversary. But they are. So DJ Hoto   played a version of Heroin that gave me chills, almost like i really was rushing on my run, etc. Even if Heroin was an instrumental, it'd be hard to not be affected by it. The chords, the viola and drums add up to something i cant really describe that gets me every time.
And speaking of herriman, back in the old days ol' ACC was passing time in a swing seat at a playground, gently swinging back and forth,  and fell face-first into the dirt.  Fun times!
And speaking of Lou Reed, Kurt Gottschalk is suppozeably working on a new Lou Reed manifesto. If u remember, Kurt gave ol' ACC a great review of Louie Louie when it first came out.
Still no tour or shows or anything...2busy working on being more accommodating.

artwork by mister nancy

Mister has begun an exciting second career as a graphic artist. I love this painting she just finished. Untitled.  18x24 inches.
And here's the lil lady hersel' at this year's Burning Man, and at Easter-time  somewhere on tour last year.  And onstage with Fabulous Disaster.  (She's the blonde on the right.  What a little dish.)    Looks like maybe she's having a wardrobe malfunction in this picture.
Hey Mister, paint my wagon!

yes but where r the wheels

Two time-travel movies recently screened here at ye old NON TOUR:   (Dont let this clip scare u off seeing) SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED, Aubrey Plaza's performance makes it worth watching. What a face she has. Those eyes. Those lips. That hair.  Those legs.
And u might like SOUND OF MY VOICE. Brit Marling co-wrote and starred.
And speaking of time, Walter Isaacson's biography of Albert Einstein is very entertaining. Upon seeing his baby sister for the first time, young Albert's response was "Yes, but where are the wheels?"
