stick 'em up punks, it's the fun-lovin' criminals

Hello. By now maybe you've heard
of the 2robbers wearing thongs as masks. Ha! (As our Russian electrician Joe Kaplan would say, "Who's the genius?").
And speaking of men wearing underwear on their heads, once while on tour in Edinburgh, we found ourselves in a huge somewhat unruly crowd, and i saw a drunk kilt-wearing Scotsman walking down the street with blue and white mens' briefs on HIS head. Our host(holla!)explained to us that after a soccer match, lots of Scots walk around the streets like that. It was truly an un4gettable image. Oh, and the guy was blowing a big horn, like a shofar kind-of-thing.
And speaking of un4gettable images, yesterday i got a sneak-preview of a soon-2-b-launched blog, and i saw a picture of ***** ********* wearing big furry monster feet and holding a colorful umbrella. When i came across the picture, i was drinking coffee and i did that Danny Thomas spit-take thing . What a mess but it was worth it.

as britta phillips would say, 'out walking'

Hello. I went on a walk along the beach and i saw a watermelon perched on the seawall. I walked in the dunes which were lit so beautifully by the late-afternoon sun, then went into Golden Gate Park, where i saw a guy playing red sparkly drums.
He said he didnt mind if i took some pix of him playing. Notice that his kit is set up on a folded yoga mat? Ya gotta love it. He was a really twinkly and friendly guy, and said "you dont have to be young and sexy to play the drums...you can be OLD and sexy." He asked me if i would send him the pix and gave me a brochure that contained his email addy. When i got home i looked at the brochure;he is a certified Alexander Technique practitioner. What an interesting guy. Sorry i couldnt find him on the web so u could see.
Blogspot is being v. slow and difficult so i am hanging up now b4 i lose everything.

r u the man in 210 A?

Hello. First of all, look at the links list, u'll see a new one has been added, SO MANY RECORDS,SO LITTLE TIME. It's really top drawer, as Auntie Mame would say.
Second of all, uh, let's see, second of all....hmmm i'm not sure there is a second of all which sounds alot like seconal and i wouldnt mind having one (or a handful) right about now. R they even available anymore? Mostly i'm waiting for my camera battery 2 recharge so i can show u pix of a walk i just returned from. I know it's not good grammar 2end a sentence with a preposition, but i never liked "from which". Sounds kinda stuffy. And speaking of stuffy, if u know when my cold might go away, could u please let me know? Thank u.
No tour or shows or anything..2busy feeling the effects of a tofu burger i ate yesterday. Oh, was that tmi? SORRY. (as u can tell, dear readers, i'm a little grumpy at the moment). So sue me. Gee, i guess i'm more than a LITTLE grumpy. I'll be in a better mood the next time u hear from me. (Or not.) And speaking of "or not" that's what Jason Pierce always does. No, not THAT Jason Pierce. THIS Jason Pierce. He'll go on and on about something, very sincere, then end the whole thing with "or not."

happi anni

Hi Rich! Remember the GOOD times! And some other good times. And then some other good times. ((Remember when u joined my one-woman band because u were kinda jealous that i wanted to ask Neo to b the gtr player?)
And speaking of all these good times, remember when a fan asked u 4 an autograph after a show we did(where the hell was that anyway? France? Sam Fram? Hello Cleveland!)and u signed..."remember the good times". And i thought that was so funny, because how can u remember the good times with someone u dont know? And speaking of how funny u r, remember another time when a fan asked u 2 sign a 45, and u asked him what he wanted u 2 write, and he said "could u sign it 'thanks for the inspiration'." Yeah, there's all kinds of good times...:-)
And i'll always remember, in bloomington, how cool u were, even tho i didnt know u. Then when i got 2 know u, whew! that's when the REAL fun began. Then u joined MX, and wow,as Sunshine would say, how much did i love seeing u onstage at the Monroe County Library?? ALOT!, THAT'S how much. And the fun just keeps on happening. Thanks 4 everything Rich!

fool on the hill

And that fool is me. I missed the Herb Alpert/Lani Hall show at Yoshi's in San Francisco last night. GOTTdammit. A coupla weeks ago i red in New Yorker that they were playing a nyc show and i kept meaning to check their itinerary to see if they were making a Bay Area appearance...but did i follow thru or did i just keep 4getting about it? GOTTdammit. So last night, probably right about the time they were onstage, i came across this
then i checked their itin, but of course by then it was 2late. I'm hatin' myself. 4 real.
Lani's always been one of my favorite singers, and i had a HUGE crush on Herb, back in his tuxedo-wearing glam days. I even tacked up a poster of him on the ceiling above my bed.
Anyway, u can imagine how thrilled i was to meet both of them during the making of White Courtesy Phone. They came to the Plant in Sausalito so Herb could do his magic on Lazy...Lani had carried his mute in her handbag. I dont know why i thought that was so cute, but i did. When she reached in, pulled it out and handed it to him, i imagined it wasnt the first time she had done so. I dunno, it was just a cute quiet moment and i felt lucky to have witnessed it. And when i told Lani that I had always loved her singing, Herb said in his soft shy voice, "me too."

people's republic of bolinas, part one

people's republic of bolinas, part one

Hello everybody! After returning to Cali from Brooklyn, A&R went to Bolinas for a few days where we were internet-free. Click on the pic then click slideshow for large4mat, and maybe you'll see why I always feel so good there.

Since getting back yesterday from BoBo(that's what the locals call it)I've had a new cd on constant replay: Clandestino by Manu Chao. It's the first cd to get me off my Dorothy Ashby cd, Afro Harping, which has been on constant replay since 2 weeks b4Christmas. Seriously. Cuzz that's how i roll. When i get a new cd that i like, i listen to it over and over for, well, quite awhile. I learned about the Manu Chao cd from my newest MySpace friend, Carlos Tropicana, who is really cracking me up. So funny! Here is his blog. So anyway, get the Manu Chao cd, and i'll bet u wont b able 2stop listening to Bongo Bong either (it doesnt hurt that the lyrics r dirty heh heh. or at least i THINK they r). OOPS! i just googled the lyrics...i thought he was saying "hit me when i come", but it's actually "HEAR me when i come". and i thought "banging on my boogie" meant, well, u know, but i guess he's referring to his actual bongo drum. ha ha. Love them mis-heard lyrics. But anyway, every song is great, like each song is a hit single.
No tour or shows or anything...2busy wondering if Carlos Tropicana makes beautiful custom glass sinks.

park slope rules!

ny

Hello everybody. Hope u enjoy these pix of Brooklyn and NYC. Click on the pic then click slideshow 4 large 4mat.
This lantern was hanging in a japanese restaurant that played Lou Reed and James Brown songs. We were highly amused.
One of our very favorite things to do each day was walk down the street to Cafe Regular for morning coffee. OMG this place rocks!!! Read this if u want2know more about the place.
We did a lotta lotta walking...no hills!
My favorite restaurant was 'Snice. I tried to convince the owner to open a San Francisco 'Snice which really WOULD be 'snice! Very 'snice! It's vegetarian, and vegan, but not weird like some veg places, like the Cafe Gratitude chain. It's just really great food minus the meat, which, as u know is murder.
Squeamish readers, dont read this next sentence: While eating lunch at 'Snice, I watched an overweight lady in a bright red tight t-shirt eat 2 chocolate cookies, which she followed up with boogers. Not burgers, BOOGERS. She sat there writing in her journal, picking her nose and eating it. Good thing she was sitting behind BFF Rich;I'm not sure he could've handled it! But i like to spy. I'm like Dean Wareham that way, I see EVERYTHING. Better be careful what u r doing if I'm around! Ha ha!
So, no tour or shows or anything...2busy being happy for a certain someone who graduated NYU, found a new apartment, and adopted a cat, all within 2 days. Holla!

finger lickin' good

Hello. Yesterday while walking up and down the hills I met 2 guys who were working on their vintage cars. James, who looks like bb king and has hands like 2bunches of bananas, owns a 1938 Jaguar cream-colored sedan. The hood was open and when i looked inside, i saw that the engine was spotless, just immaculate. I said "i could cook my dinner in there, it's so clean." Tom, whose car is a bright red Eldorado convertible with white top and interior, told me that he had actually cooked a chicken on the engine of his car on a drive to las vegas. Ha!

take me 4 a ride on your bike, mike

Hello. Took a bike ride around Fort Baker. It's so beautiful there in the little valley. That area is being developed. It's not as bad as it could be;it's not heinous or anything. But there r some newer buildings that arent that visually pleasing(unlike the George Lucas buildings inside the Lombard Gate in the Presidio which integrate well with the existing older ones).

Hello. Red things have been jumping out at me lately (oooh! - ed), and the color seems even more attractive than usual. And bffrich found an old can of blue hair spray while he was having a tidy-up in the basement.

itsa new windy world

Hello. What's up with all the wind? It's not just windy here in Sam Fram, but other places too, including the tornadoes in Virginia the other day. And speaking of tornadoes, ol' ACC remembers being terrified back in the Michigan days during several tornadoes there. 4 me, the worst part was afterwards when the grown-ups would drive around looking at all the damage, then talk about it when they got back home. I didnt like hearing about everything they saw. One of the images they reported still haunts me and no i aint telling u cuzz i dont want your ass 2b haunted too. I'll take an earthquake over a tornado ANY day.
