trick or treat

Hello.
Today A&R 1) had lunch in the cafe at the Legion of Honor with Linda Aldrich, and 2) became houseboat owners, officially!
A cute guy named Nelson came to the Stimboleum today to buy my old black velvet Polytone amp, left over from band days. I called her Polly. Rich had brilliantly removed the two chrome Ls from the lettering on front of his Marshall amp, rendering it Marsha which we thought was so funny to call a honking Marshall amp by a girl's name. That's the kind of shit u think is funny when you're in a band. Plus, it always made me think of Marsha, the girl who Waldo Jeffers mails himself to in The Gift.
For an extra $10, we sold Nelson a cute little gray pop-up dome tent. He was happy and said, "now i can play my guitar in the woods." On our porch on his way out he spotted a box full of empty photo books and we gave those to him.
No tour or shows or anything...2busy working on my H-ween costume.
And how YOU doin'?

do u need any ideas 4 halloween?

Why not dress up as surfing DEA agents? (Honk if u recognize my partner here.)
Whenever i wore this hat in my old neighborhood folks'd get kinda uptight. One of these uptight ppl was a young white guy with a tattoo of a 40 that took up his entire back.(MENSA has no headquarters in this neighborhood). Afraid of getting shot at, I had to stop wearing the hat.

me&what's-their-names 5

Now here we r with(from left) George Earth, ACC, and Eric Gebow, backstage at a festival in Belgium (or maybe France).
George played guitar and Eric played drums. Maybe around hmmmm'96,'97,'98 hell i dunno.
At our house once, George and Eric were hanging out and Eric said "you're harshing my mellow." That was the first time i had heard anyone say that. Cant remember which one of us he said it to tho.
More me-and-what's-their-names 2morrow. Til then...

me and what's-their-names 4

Hello.
Today's mens r all SanFran mens. Phillip Palermo is the handsome Sicilian in the red plaid shirt. Phillip was my gay lover in the 80s and 90s. Not really, but, u know, in our hearts we were. I knew it was serious when he gave me a wee little padlock 2 wear around my neck. Back then Phillip headed up Gibson Palermo, his own couture fashion house, and i worked there, sometimes getting paid in clothing. After work we would have dinner at Zuni. Pretty glam lifestyle. It never worked to go to Zuni without Phillip tho;sometimes R and i would go there and they would just look right thru us like we wasnt even there. But go there with P, and everybody flock to.
The cute guy in the orange tshirt is Mark Paron. He's a very good artist.
And last but certainly not least is the funny and witty Louis Tarr. Louis' taste in music was really horrible. When R and i hear that kind of music, we always say a little hi-dee-ho to Louis. P.J. O'Rourke once wrote that this type of music sounded like someone tipped over the kitchen cabinet. Yup, that's what Louis loved. That clattering bullshit would be playing and Louis would just be tappin' and dancin'. I used 2 have so much fun with him at Phillip's house, which was party central then. These guys plus all their "friends" would attend every ACC show, and the club-owners would tell me "your people drink more than any other crowd! They order 2 and 3 drinks at a time!" They were a partyin' crowd and they always looked fantastic too. In fact, that's how I met Phillip and his partner, John Gibson. They came to one of my shows and i saw P standing there and he looked so damn good. They decided they wanted 2 see me wearing their clothing onstage, and invited me to their showroom to choose some things. So i did go, and in one of the workrooms I saw Oprah Winfrey's dress form. I could not believe how huge it was. Gigantic.
Anyway, hope u arent tired of all these pix...dont come back 4 a few days if so because there r still more 2 come. (Ooooooooh.-Ed.)

me and what's-their-names 3

Hello. Welcome back to "It's Raining Men". Today's featured mens: In the baseball cap is Arne Frager, who owned the Plant at the time White Courtesy Phone was recorded. Arne co-wrote and produced that song by Rockwell "Somebody's Watchin' Me". Remember that one? Not a very good song, but yet very sticky. There r so many mediocre hit songs out there. Why cant i write one of them? haha.
In the picture with me in a lop-sided haircut is Bruce Anderson. And he gave me that haircut. Bruce used 2 cut his friends' hair in Bloomington. The lop-sided one he gave me upset some people. They would say things like "How could u let him do that 2 u?" etc. Now these days everybody got crazy hair but i guess it was different then. U know ALL THE WAY back then.
Standing in front of the wall of ACC posters is Howard Thompson. Howard signed ACC to Almo, and he also signed MX80 to Island Records during his time there. These days here is where u can find him.
Ok kids, i gotta go, i got work 2 do.

me and what's-their-names 2

Hello.
More pix from the archives. Who ARE all these guys anyway? Well, the man in the fez was a doorman outside one of the places on Broadway. He worked there for years and we always enjoyed seeing one another, even tho maybe he liked it a little bit more than i did.
In the sunglasses is Marty Thau, i think on a San Francisco visit when he was trying to sell something to 415 Records. In the b&w photo, Craig Leon is on the left and the one-and-only Hal Blaine is on the right. Photo taken at the Plant in Sausalito during the recording of White Courtesy Phone.
And speaking of Phil Spector, a most exciting moment happened at the Plant when Hal opened up a big duct-taped cardboard box which was marked "SPECTOR STUFF". One by one he took various percussion instruments out of the box and i realized that these same jingle bells, tambourines, shakers, etc. used on all my favorite songs of the 60s and 70s would b used on White Courtesy Phone. Readers, i almost plotzed. I had 2 go in the bathroom and splash cold water on me face!
And i cried when Hal cried while he was working on "Threw It Away". The lyrics got to him while he was playing, and he had to take a break. Cassell, Craig's beautiful wife and assistant sent me into the bathroom (Again??. -Ed.)to get it together, while she and Craig dealt with Hal.
Ok kids, more pix later, I'm spozed 2 b packin', not yackin'!

me and what's-their-names 1

In preparation 4 our move aboard a houseboat, R scanned all our pix and they r now in my laptop. R has been organizing and scanning all pix, letters, depositions, etc. Talk about your whole life flashing by... So anyway, here's me with Jason Pierce at a hotel bar in London, me with Lindsay Hutton in an old(duh!) castle in Scotland, and me with Rich Stim of MX80, at a party at Stanley Goman's house, back when Stan headed up the Tower Records store in San Francisco. More pix on the way!!
(Thanks 4 the warning. -Ed.)

hi H !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

666/6

Hello
.
Feelin' devlish after watching THE STORY OF ANVIL. Very highly recommended. (Note 2 Jenny Hall: RENT THIS NOW). In one scene, the band r discussing song or album titles or something, and one of the guys has the idea 666, except he calls it "666...6." Kinda lost his place somewhere there in the middle. This movie has so many hilarious quotes, they just keep coming one after another. There r 2 main guys in the band, and the things they say veer back and forth from crazy Spinal Tap-like shit to something profound that makes u cry. Anyway, I LOVE eloquent rock stars.
Still hatin' on the Blue Angels. It was 2 foggy yesterday so they rescheduled for today. R is in the front room right now with our massage therapist, meanwhile the planes r screeching and roaring overhead. Not conducive. And also meanwhile, today and tomorrow r Spare the Air days. Does that make any sense 2 u, burning hundreds of gallons of gasoline in the sky on Spare the Air days?

one bad apple, etc.

Uh oh. R just called from the Apple store. Not good. Not good at all. They had told him his laptop would b ready 4 pick-up this morning, that all was well. So far, he's been there for about 2 hours, with one problem after another which i wont bore u with. Finally, they brought out "his" computer, but, uh oh, it wasnt his. More gruesome details as they come in. :-(

everybody must get stonedtown

Hello.
Took R to the Apple store at Stonestown this afternoon. Evidently he was swarmed by employees who gave him the attention similar to what you'd receive in a trauma unit. 5 employees were helping him, and they sent messages 2 one another on their iphones, even tho they were all right there with one another.
Here's the missing link from yesterday.
No tour or shows or anything...2busy running around in circles.
