happy birthday jenny hall (with several mentions of Steve Albini in a shameless effort to boost my google analytics)
A and R have known Jenny since her high-school days. She was great 2b with then, and the same is true 2day. She is a mighty impressive young lady, y'all. Once when Shellac were visiting A and R, Jenny was at the house and after hanging out for awhile, Steve and Todd told Jenny that she gave them hope for the future. See what i'm sayin'?
A and R had just gotten the book The Encyclopedia of Unusual Sex Practices, and Jenny was reading it silently to herself and every once in awhile she'd pipe up, "Oh my god!", or "What?!" Finally, after another outburst Steve said "What did u just read?" Jenny got all shy and started stammering and her face turned red and Steve, bless his heart, quietly said to her "That's ok, dont embarrass yourself, you dont have to read it." I really liked Steve for being like that.
Jenny lives in NY these days, and right about now should be seriously celebrating in the ballroom of the Jane Hotel. Happy Birthday Jimmy!

and one more thing...
Finally finished listening to the Steve Jobs book. It's sad that Steve died; he had so many more great ideas to act out. One of them had to do with smartening up how ppl use their televisions that sounds alot like something R has been wanting for years now.
R is pretty forward thinking himself. Way way WAY back in the day, he made his own Walkman b4 there WAS a Walkman. I cant remember exactly how he did it, but something about velcro around his head and headphones, which, back then were really big, not like today's headphones, and duct tape and a giant-sized cassette player. It looked really wacky but it did the Job(s).

pointillist and shoot
I love seeing all the tiny pink and white dots sprinkled on the ground at this time of year, the petals fallen from the various flowering trees. And speaking of being on the ground and things i love, i love these lyrics to Fragile Mind by J Neo: (But then again, i love all of his lyrics, not just these.)
"You're on
The ground
The crowd
Is staring at you
No one
Believes it
They're all asking
Just what did you do."
No tour or shows or anything...2busy reading about a new coffee i bought today at Other Avenues, where i first met J Neo.

And speaking of scarey fast things, the film Take Shelter is a must see. Whew. Kind of similar to Jacob's Ladder which scared the hell out of me.

story of O
I remember reading The Story of O a long(Oooooh. -Ed.) time ago. Ppl 2day wouldnt think it's a hot book but back then it was, i think. Or maybe it still is, i should re-read it.
There r a few different movie versions, this 70s-looking one looks downright cute.
And speaking of cute, who knew that Hunter Thompson was such a sweet guy? See for yourself...watch The Rum Diary and check out the 2 extra features which deal with the editing process to turn the book into a film, you'll see what i mean.
In one of the extra features, Johnny Depp reads a letter that Hunter had written to Keith Richards. It says something like, (sorry 4 crap paraphrasing) "Keith, why cant you lead a top-notch band? Mick does it, Eric does it, why cant you?" It's hilarious.
No tour or shows or anything...2busy with my chicken (I never get tired of him).

hold on i'm comin'
Hey everybody, whatchu doin'?
Took a 3hour walk in Golden Gate Park. All the flowering trees r in bloom around here, so pretty. Took some pix but with my camera the blossoms dont really show up.
And speaking of blossoms, u have GOT to see The Bliss of Mrs. Blossom starring Richard Attenborough and Shirley MacClaine. Mr. Blossom, played by Attenborough, is SO Craig Leon. Each nite after dinner Mr. Blossom puts on one of his many quasi-military uniforms, complete with hat, and wildly conducts this sort of classical/nationalistic music that he has blasting from a giant reel-to-reel tape machine which is down below in a sitting area. Mrs. Blossom (played by Shirley) sits next to the tape machine, at an easel, working on her oil paintings wearing one of her many colorful and inventive outfits. The interior of their home has been painted by Mrs. Blossom, with big paisley and floral motifs on all the walls. It's all so very 1960s. Shirley always reminds A and R of their darling friend Heater. Holla Heat!
No tour or shows or anything...2busy um, 2busy er, um actually i'm not 2busy. I'm not busy at all, let alone 2busy. Kind of asleep on the couch.

except for that one guy
"Well they asked me to read a poem
At the sorority sisters' home
I got knocked down and my head was swimmin'
I wound up with the dean of women"
I recite this Dylan lyric to R whenever he is asked to give a speech or be part of a panel. Last week he took part in a mucus bidness seminar at Boalt Hall, UC Berkeley, as one of six speakers. Of course i attended. Sitting there listening, I didnt know if it was just me or what, but i felt that the speakers were giving info and advice as tho they were addressing people who were already successful, who already knew how to play the game, and who had big bucks to throw at managers, agents, lawyers, etc.
So R's turn comes up, he barely says a few words, and the next sound i heard was an audience of about 100 people bursting into laughter. R proceeded to tell it like it t.i.s., giving real-world advice mostly centered around the idea that things are pretty much hopeless. Delivered in that typical deadpan way of his he had the audience in stitches. A student sitting in front of me was fist-pumping, laughing and saying "right on!" Even the other members on the panel were amused and shaking their heads, like, "yeah, that's the way it is alright."
When it was over the 2 girls sitting next to me stood up, and one said to the other, "Who's gonna do all that? Who has the money to pay for all that? They were useless." And the other girl goes "Yeah, except for that one guy."
U my dog, R!

get a jobs
Been listening 2 the Steve Jobs book. The way the author's material is organized makes Steve's story seem inevitable, like his whole life was pointed in one direction. And then to be listening to it on an iPhone, there's a certain cosmic touch to it all. And even tho the history of Silicon Valley may not sound like the world's most interesting subject, that part is actually fascinating.
No tour or shows or anything...2busy signing autographs.

get out on the highway
Spunt a few hours at Ocean Beach 2day.
Biked the path and Lower Great Highway from Golden Gate Park to the zoo, then hopped in the car and drove on the Upper Highway back the other direction. If i had 2 of me, one of them would reside permanently at Ocean Beach. It was a sunny clear day, but here's what it looks like there alot of the time.
Do u know about this group? Maybe yes, but i'm just now getting there.
No tour or shows or anything...2busy thinking about this movie gosh it is so good.
