forever-ish young

On the recommendation of a favored NON TOUR DIARY reader, A&R finally watched YOUNG@HEART. Seeing the group rehearse I Feel Good made A&R so nervous, but the night of the performance, when it really counted, they pulled it off.
Songs like Bowie's Golden Years, the Ramones' I Wanna Be Sedated, and The Who's, oops i meant The Clash's Should I Stay or Should I Go take on a whole new meaning when sung by a group whose median age is 80+.
One of the performers'phrasing brought to mind Marianne Faithfull circa the Broken English LP. That's my favorite MF record.

bloody hammer

ACC has never been a Black Sabbath fan but still, i'm getting a kick out of Tony Iommi's audiobook Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath , narrated by Bev Bevan. Naturally there r the generic but hilarious stories, sort of like a template for band stories...get really drunk, cut off the pantlegs of your bandmate's jeans while he is passed out/get really drunk, intentionally drop Ozzy off at the wrong house after the show/get really drunk, accidentally hit the guy behind u with the swing of a hammer, etc. The funny thing about dropping Ozzy off at the wrong house is, they did it 5 times before Oz figured out it was a prank.
One of my favorite bits: a guy falsely claimed that he was Tony's son, and another band made a song about it titled "Practicing to be Tony Iommi."
I never get tired of reading band bios.

heaven's tweets

Where have i been anyways? Just now learning about the more recent goings-on in Michael Cimino's life, personally and professionally.  He looks like a different guy now, not just his face and hair, but his whole body seems to have undergone the transformation.  He used to be chunky, now he's downright wispy.  What an intriguing fellow.  See his tweets here.

flowered up

Friends from Berkeley visited A&R on the HB, and brought cake and these flowers. Nice.
Speaking for everyone in the room because i'm bossy like that, i thanked them 4the cake but said it wouldnt get eaten at the HB so they should take the cake home and enjoy it there. When i started to put the cake back in its box, there was a mini-outburst and the people spoke: They wanted their cake.Almost a little panicked that maybe they wouldnt be having any.  It was funnier than it sounds here. Also, they were probably not looking forward to eating whatever healthfood snax i had put out.  Things like organic agave-infused young Thai coconut balls dipped in mashed yeast, things like that.
I've always been bossy. I LOVE telling people what to do. Now stop doing that!

gated community

R installed this chain-link tourist repellant yesterday and so far so good---no strangers standing at our door, peering into the window at me dressed only in a t-shirt and undies, stuffing blueberries into my face.  A&R's dock, which is kind of proletariet compared to some of the other docks,  doesnt get many tourists but lately there r alot of extra ppl in town for the America's Cup.

put a stamp on it

Just received this ultra-hip Stamp Lamberts Productions t-shirt from me old pal Kevin Teare. Kevin and Chris Stamp were neighbors/friends when Chris still lived in Sag Harbor. I love the shirt. Nice swag, Kebn, thank u.  Im sorry about your friend.  He was such a dynamic person.
And speaking of girls in tight t-shirts,  heard some Archie Shepp coming from R's office today and i suddenly shot back to the early 1970s. (i was listening to alot of jazz then.) Anyway, shot back to then and recalled being in the audience at an Archie Shepp performance in a small club.  There were two sets and i was surprised when Archie came over and sat at my table during the break.   We were talking and having drinks and he asked me if i'd be interested in "traveling" with him.   Jee, it sounded so exciting and glam, on the road with a bunch of musicians,  i guess i was somehow thinking that i'd be up on stage with them, like dancing around or even singing, i dont know.  Then realized 'hey wait a minute'.  So  I asked Mr Shepp "what would i be doing?"  and he burst out laughing.  Oh, ok.  Never mind.
