cmon everybody cmon in angel's gonna show u how to do the swim

So grateful my parents provided swim lessons for us kids. I put those lessons to good use at the Carpinteria Community Pool last week. Imagine the view as u r swimming: huge huge Santa Ynez mountains huge huge clouds blue blue sky and tall tall palm trees. Unbelievably gorgeous AND! 'Layla' is playing on the loudspeakers.  Once in the pool i didnt want to get out.
Took a drive to Santa Barbara whoa. and had lunch at Mesa Verde,  the best vegetarian restaurant in the free world hands down; colorful, inventive organic plant-based food.
Worked on a fantasy of taking Bruce Anderson with us next time.  He could wear items from his white linen collection kindly chosen by his lovely M.
Dats it for now thanks 4 checking in. x0x

crash

In Carpinteria for a few days it is so soft and warm. (that's what SHE said).
Cruising vacation rentals on craigslist i found this listing in a seaside town called Summerland. What a great name for a iittle beach town. Or for anything.
Thought i wasnt comingback to the blog this soon but here i am.  Huh.

uh oh

Back soon? Not sure about that. But u can always find me here.
Hope u r all ok. x0x

i dont think this is what ray kurzweil means by 'singularity'

ACC is fortunate to have in-house tech support 24/7. Today my iPhone wouldnt beep or vibrate on incoming messages so R got on the phone to Apple and voila. And speaking of incoming,  R wants the new iPhone. Good thing we live on the left coast.
All the smoke in the air is resulting in fantastical sunsets, unreal super-color visions. And speaking of fires, one of the fires burning in Monterey has an unusual source of origin.
And, to sum up: highly recommending the very sad Brian Wilson book.  Make that very very sad. Poor Brian. Poor all of them really. On that note...

like a surgeon (NOT!)

So ACC's ol' pal Dale 'MX80' Sophiea has received the good news that he does not knee-d surgery and the editors at NON TOUR say 'Bravo on that Dale'!
In other Bay Area news...it rained!!! Sure hope it helps with the active fires northern Cali has been experiencing the last several weeks.
Still no tour or shows or anything...2busy evolving.

rockin' back inside

Here we r again, Wednesday sure comes up fast.
A major heat wave has hit northern Cali and is expected to last thru Friday.  Boy u know the struggle is real when all u can think of to talk about at your blog is the weather.  Fact is, sorry but i am so hot i gotta hang up now.  Maybe i'll come back later.

Illustration of proper tooth-brushing by Jerome Stroumza, DDS.

Hello again. Less hot today oh no not talking about the weather again?!
Last nite's movie was I'll Be Me, the docu on Glen Campbell. It's completely fascinating... actually it's mindblowing. A definite must-see.
Still no tour or shows or anything...2busy enjoying the last few days of summer.

But dont get too excited...these Handmade on a Houseboat® items r scarves not stockings.
And much respect to my fellow bloggers who keep up the power of regular posts. In that regard I am failing epically.  Oh well.

m.i.a.

I'm more at instagram these days than here.  And speaking of instagram, today someone i follow posted that she'd like to move to Maine.  Me, i cant imagine moving from Cali EVER.
These r the steps from Sutro Park down the dunes to the Great Highway.

u can rest your weary head right on me

And the days dwindle down...to a precious few...
All kinds of days r dwindling down.  Last days of summer, last days of my brother's life. He loves German shepherds too.

under, thumb, etc.

Ok everybody, sing along with me now. Well that was fun, eh?
Just returned from swimming laps, and buying a big bunch of okra at the farmers mkt.   Okra scares the hell out of R; the strings, the slime, the beebees.  Run R, run!
So, still no tour or shows or anything...2busy trying to beat the clock.

keefteef

I'm not crazy about Keith's new teeth, i preferred his old ones.  Anyway, we'll all get a good look at the 2.0 chomps on September 18 when Netflix releases a docu on the making of Keef's new album.

Saw the JMW Turner exhibit today.  Most of the paintings had overly fancy bright gold frames that seemed to restrict or one-up the  magical glowing light coming from within the work.  The fancy frames also made fancy shadows on the wall.
The water colors were presented in a simpler way that allowed the power of the light within to come flying out toward you.  They actually looked like they were in a lightbox.

Still no tour or shows or anything...2busy thinking of Turner and all of his impossibly beautiful images.

son of mx-80

Meet Nico Sophiea, son of MX-80 bass player Dale Sophiea and the beautiful Elania Nanopoulos.
What a huge kick it is to have him playing drums on the soon-to-be-unleashed MX project.  Hey Neekster, enjoy your trip to Greece, and safe travels.
Anyway, still no tour or shows or anything for me, too busy waiting for pizza.

breakfast club

So the big excitement last Sunday was A&R hosted Shellac and crew and opening act for a smashin' breakfast on the houseboot. It was a sunshiney sparkling morning.  We had a full menu to get them going strong for their busy day ahead:  a self-serve toasting station for bagels with creamed cheese, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers and red onion; another station for granola, yogurt, almond milk and fruit (Todd: "Granola! Toasted just the way i like it.");  various cold drinks; vegetarian breakfast burritos; and coffee and a mega pile o' donuts. When i realized later in the morning that i had forgotten to put out the $40 worth of olives i had bought with Steve in mind (Steve loves olives) he hugged me and said "Next time."
After breakfast R and the group except for Steve took the van to Mill Valley so Todd could see the giant redwoods.  Steve wanted to look at houseboats so I took him on a walking tour of several houseboat docks and he saw this blue heron.

Here's Bob enjoying the redwoods.

And here's Todd enjoying the redwoods.

In case u've never seen a Shellac performance, check this out. They have fun.
Anyway it was great to see the band again.  Here's to more sold-out shows guys!

clapton is good

Did u ever wonder how Eric Clapton got the nickname 'Slowhand'?
When he first started playing in public he'd break strings and since he didnt have a second guitar the show would have to stop while he changed them. During these long pauses the audience would do this in-unison slow clapping thing called 'slow hand-clapping' which became 'Slowhand Clapton.'
I'm highly recommending his autobio even if u arent that interested in him. I never was a big Clapton fan but the book is so interesting u dont have to be a fan or even know who he is really. It's packed with recording and fashion details (and speaking of fashion look at JP!)  and lots about his early years.
Like Keef, Eric was extremely poor growing up. His family's house had no electricity and no indoor bathroom. The 'bathtub' was a metal basin nailed to the door of the outhouse.  He says he has no memory of ever taking a bath until he left home.
Anyway, still no tour or shows or anything...getting ready for a big day on Sunday.

the dancer disappeared

Had a dream i was with Dean Wareham in the wings at a Dean Wareham or Luna show and we
were side-by-side jumping up and down to the music,  arms linked. "Wha?" u may be asking. (Or not. -Ed.) "If Dean was on stage performing how could he also have been with u on the side of the stage?"  But in the dream i didnt question the situation. I was having so much fun.
As it turns out, the "Dean" i was with wasnt Dean at all, but someone who looked slightly like him. Ever so slightly. Ok, just barely.  I felt like such a fool when others realized that my misperception had been so complete.  Later i looked for the guy but couldnt find him.
And then ACC woke up.

my red joystick

Hello hello hello. Finally finished listening to the Joe Eszterhas book. 28 hours! He's pretty crazy alright. Or was anyway. Health issues forced him to clean up. When he lived in Cali he made fun of ppl who ate healthy foods, now he's a juice-aholic instead of an alcoholic. He also hated that in Cali u really cant smoke in public places, later he went on a campaign for Hollywood to stop filming actors smoking.
Next up in ACC's listening library is The Kid Stays in the Picture by Robert Evans. Turns out most industry ppl love, or at least are fond of Bob, which is not the case for Eisner, Ovitz, the Weinsteins, etc.  Bob narrates his book. I listened to a preview, sounds like his false teeth are loose or something. Kind of shoddy production which is weird, considering he's such a stickler for production details. Hey what's this? Better put it in my que too.
Very very windy in the Bay Area since May, ol' ACC apparently has developed an allergy to all the pollen and dust being blown all over the place, resulting in coughing spasms that sound like a dog barking.
OK gotta go, it's dinner time then a bike ride.  See u next Wednesday.

the face u make when...

Hello!
One day late on promised once-a-week post, so sue me i cant remember every little thing. U know when u hear someone say something and u never 4get it? There was a wacky couple in our neighborhood, they walked around drinking these colorful super-sized radioactive-looking drinks in plastic bottles, pretty disfunctional to say the least, and they would argue and scream at each other, with her walking behind him yelling at him in front and him yelling at her behind him. Once we heard her yell up ahead "So sue me i cant remember every little thing!"
Had a more than wonderful trip to the beach in Pt. Reyes with loved ones, it was a sparkling sparkling sparkling sparkling day.
Still no tour or shows or anything...2busy googling myself. Ah jeez, 'Twee Wave'?   and while it's hot, just $40!

a week of wednesdays

My old neighbor Mrs Doyle (r.i.p.) used to say, "I'm havin' a week of Wednesdays." No matter how i tried to convince her and logic her out of it, she truly couldnt believe that every day had not been Wednesday.
Anyway, Wednesday is my new publish day,  once a week.   And sorry about not being around here much.  Dont want o disappoint my reader,  i mean readers.
Been pretty active on instagram (@angelcorpuschristi) if u feel like killing time there.
See u next week. x0x

existential lover

Ready to get your laugh on?  Click here, see yellow highlight on right side of page. Now that's just plain funny am i right? R used to write fake press releases for MX, this one really kills it. If memory serves, most ppl took them seriously, which was even funnier. This one found its way into Spin magazine courtesy of Glenn O'Brien who was a huge MX fan, labeling them "either the heaviest art metal, or the artiest heavy metal" band.
And speaking of R, i love his voice, always have. And speaking of love, today is our wedding anniversary, way up in the high numbers.  Anniversary pizza comin' up!

i'm not gonna crack

Flashback Friday to that time when R was practically unrecognizeable.

let's make up and be friendly

Hey my shizznits is mobile-friendly now ya'll.
Biked into Mill Valley. Locked the bike in Old Mill Park behind the library then walked up the Dipsea steps to Edgewood Drive.  Looked wistfully at the house on a steep hillside that A&R lived in from 2000-2002.  When we lived there, we had a blow-up of a Bobby Neel Adams self-portrait tinted hot pink on an outside wall that looked kinda cool to come across in the redwoods.
Still no tour or shows or anything...2busy growing my hair out.

in the merry merry month of May

Well I'ma post this pic now bc i may not ever find it again on May 27th when i'll need it to announce a certain wedding anniversary.  True i couldve put it in draft mode but then that would slip to the bottom of the page, out of sight.
Started a new audiobook on public shaming, but still no tour or shows or anything...2busy taking a break.

just checking

A neighbor's fancy new kayak looked like it had become unhooked, possibly heading out toward the open water so i walked onto their ramp to check on it. Nope, everything OK. Do i still know how to party OR WHAT.

According to the audiobook THE GOOD SON JFK JR. etc,  Ari Onassis was bisexual and enjoyed dressing in drag with full make-up.
Somehow i just cant quite...

40/10.5

Current audiobook is super-enjoyable, although sad of course.  Here's a startling visual: Jackie and Marlon Brando hooked up if u know what i'm sayin', and she was "with" Bobby Kennedy for about 3 years.  She kept 40 pairs of identical white pants in her various closets.  Her shoe size was ten and-a-half.
So, still no tour or shows or anything...waiting for a delivery from Jeff Bezos.

love is so much better in the a.m. speshally when u groovin' with the f.m.

I grew up with my lil transistor radio under my pillow at night and in a shirt pocket during the day, even sneaking it into school which was against the rules. At recess periods, instead of socializing with the other kids, i would walk around alone with the radio up to my ear. i LOVED that little radio.
All of this is coming back to me while i listen to, and thoroughly enjoy, Joe Cipriano's book about his radio dj days. Alot of radio station call letters go whizzing by in the book, and some of them were favorites of mine.  Joe mentions alot of dj personalities. When he mentioned the name Pete Flanders, whoa i remembered going on some dates with Pete when he worked at a station in the Flint area. He would give me shout-outs and dedicate songs to me and that was always exciting, hearing your name on the radio like that.
So i'm highly recommending this book.  Really good production value.
Still no tour or shows or anything...2busy watching Madmen.

candy pop

I just cant get enough of these electro-pink flowers on the hillside at Ebbtide and Bridgeway in Sausalito.
And speaking of pink,  i've been wondering about something recently.  I think I'd like to have long pink hair, let it fly in the breeze get caught in the trees.
Anyway, still no tour or shows or anything...2busy looking at rough cuts of next ACC video. Exciting!

is it any wonder?

Part of me (Uh oh. -Ed) is always here, up above Ocean Beach.  On sleepless nights, in my mind's eye i wander all around that entire area. Always the decision...use the stairs or glide down the dunes?  Here are the stairs looking up from Balboa Street.
Anyway, still no tour or shows or anything...2busy "reading".

on the waterfront

Anybody want to chip in?  I'm not sure about today but back in the day this little area was a happening artistic community.  As i was reading the NO TRESPASSING signs I wondered if they help to keep the tourists out.
And speaking of 'keep out', keep the Scientology docu out of your que.  Not ezzackly P.U., more like 'meh'.

but what's the difference between throwback thursday and flashback friday? and anyway isnt today saturday?

I've gone Instagram nuts. I follow a few dogs, particularly German shepherds (Hans, who has funny ears) and blue Australian cattle dogs (Lupe! She lives with a rabbit named Buns and a black cat named Barbara).  Monday is Muttbuttmonday, Tuesday is Tongueouttuesday. I think it's weird that ppl refer to themselves as the dogs' mom and dad.  And the dogs r their "children".
Then there are all the surfers. The movies they post r, as they say, "awesome, breh!" Saturdaynightrecords, u get to see all the vinyl ppl r listening to.  Usually the shot includes the front LP cover and the turntable.

what does cream cheese have to do with it?

This is me with The Unknown Comic. No bag so he had to turn away from the cam. For real. When I met him backstage after his performance at the Boarding House in San Francisco he signed his poster (on the bag) "Thanks for having my baby and by the way I love what you do with cream cheese."

r cassettes really coming back?

Are cassettes making a comeback? If so, it's a trend that 4 sure i dont get. I hated cassettes even back when. So hard to advance or go back and then that thing u had to do with a pencil when the tape became unravelled.
At Discount Records in Bloomington there were these two kooky customers who pronounced 'cassette' as 'case-a-set'.  No matter how many times i said 'cassette' they would still say 'case-a-set.'
Ppl in Indiana did have a funny way of talkin'.  Former ACC spouse, himself a Hoosier, pronounced 'Washington' as 'Warshington' and i would have to say to him "Bruce Anderson, there is no R in Washington."
